 Heavy rain and flood in Punjab have caused the death of thirty seven people so far

The most affected districts include Hoshiarpur Kapurthala Faridkot and Moga Several villages here are completely submerged and people are taking shelter on higher grounds or in school and college buildings Farmers crops especially paddy and maize have been completely destroyed causing huge financial loss that will be difficult to recover


Road and rail routes have also been badly affected Several highways have been closed and train services have been halted as railway tracks are submerged In areas where water level is higher electricity supply has been cut causing additional difficulties for people


Relief and rescue operations are being carried out continuously by the administration Teams of NDRF and local police have so far rescued thousands of people to safer places The government has set up relief camps for affected people where food and medicines are being provided


Experts from the meteorological department say that due to climate change this time monsoon has been much more active than usual Heavy rain along with additional water flowing from the hilly states has increased the severity of the flood


The Chief Minister of Punjab has appealed to people to stay safe at secure places and follow the instructions of the administration He has assured that the government is providing all possible assistance and that compensation will be given to affected families He has also requested the central government for help from the disaster relief fund


Agricultural experts believe that farmers of Punjab have suffered massive losses due to this flood The paddy crop has been completely devastated and in coming days the supply of grains in markets may also be affected Experts say that the state needs a long term water management and flood control policy so that people do not face this kind of crisis every year
